Chapter 80
Overview
In the aftermath of their renewed intimacy, Raeve and Kaan fail to turn desire into emotional honesty. Kaan escalates by moving Dhomm’s only Mindweft to stop Raeve from fleeing again, revealing how far he will go to keep her alive and close.
Raeve answers that control with open defiance, using magic and seduction to reassert power instead of vulnerability. The chapter deepens their bond physically while sharpening the central conflict between Kaan’s protectiveness and Raeve’s fierce need for freedom.
Summary
After their emotionally charged night together, Raeve watches Kaan prepare breakfast and is unsettled by how naturally intimate the moment feels. She is still intensely drawn to him, but the idea of discussing what they mean to each other makes her recoil. When Kaan asks if she is ready to talk, Raeve refuses, and Kaan frames their tension bluntly: they can either fight or have sex, but they cannot keep pretending nothing is happening.
Kaan tries to steady the moment by serving Raeve fruit and water, but he also quietly takes action to prevent her from disappearing again. He sends a runed message to Pyrok and tells Raeve that Dhomm’s only Mindweft is being moved to a safe house. The decision makes clear that Kaan no longer trusts Raeve to stay if he leaves her any avenue of escape, because he is determined not to lose her a second time.
Raeve reacts with anger and resentment at being managed, even though Kaan’s motive is protection. Instead of answering him honestly, she chooses retaliation. Using Clode’s magic, Raeve raises a barrier of air between them and turns the confrontation into a deliberate, erotic taunt meant to deny Kaan access while proving she can still control the exchange.
Kaan is frustrated but does not retreat, answering Raeve’s provocation with open desire and matching intensity. Raeve pushes herself to climax while keeping him physically blocked, making the moment both punishment and challenge. When she finally lowers the tension enough to leave, Raeve tells Kaan there are no white flags left between them, and Kaan answers in kind. Raeve exits after thanking him for the fruit, leaving them more bound to each other than before but still locked in a struggle over love, autonomy, and safety.
