Summary
Darrow outfits Mustang for cold weather aboard Quicksilver’s yacht and brusquely establishes her as an ally despite Holiday’s distrust. He confronts Ragnar for freeing Kavax and revealing their route, but Ragnar argues they need Mustang and vows to protect his homeland. When Mustang arrives, Ragnar warns her that his protection depends on her honesty, and she accepts. They lift from Phobos into a city in revolt.
As the yacht weaves through Phobos’s Needles, Victra reports widespread Rising gains and cautions Darrow privately that Mustang cannot be trusted. Darrow watches the chaos below—riots, barricades, panic—and the Martian Fleet closing in to retake the moon. He admits the Rising never intended to hold Phobos; instead, he aims to lure assault forces into leaving their shuttles, which Sevro will hijack to seize ships.
Darrow explains the trap with an Inuit blood-knife parable and outlines the next phase: fly to the Valkyrie Spires for an Obsidian army. Ragnar declares he will expose the false “gods” of Asgard, arm his people, and liberate the tribes. Mustang calls the plan insane but possibly workable if Ragnar leads rather than controls, and Darrow senses Ragnar may be holding something back.
Skirting Mars, they see naval forces firing on disobedient refugee yachts. The team diverts toward the southern pole, but a “civilian” ship appears on sensors and accelerates beyond civilian capabilities. It unveils hidden weapons and opens fire as they hit atmosphere. The Blue pilot duels the attacker until a uranium shell tears through the cockpit, killing her instantly.
In the chaos, Ragnar charges laughing toward the rear, and Holiday mans the tailgun. Mustang, bloodied, wrestles into the co-pilot’s seat to fight the fall. A small object launches from their yacht and collides with the pursuer as they plunge toward a polar ice floe. Mustang orders them to brace, and the yacht slams into the ice amid a glimpse of a giant silhouette on the volcanic coast.
