Day 1,349 of My Captivity
Contains spoilersOverview
Marcellus realizes Tova still does not see the family connection unfolding around her. Fearing his end and that his Collection will be exposed, he reasons through human gestation to place conception near Erik’s accident. He resolves to provide Tova concrete identifiers—birthdate and last name—to help her finally understand.
Summary
Marcellus laments that, despite weeks of working together, the humans have not recognized the truth before them. He searches his Collection for something to point them in the right direction, but finds nothing. As his hoard spills out of his den, he worries it will be exposed at the next tank cleaning—and that he may not live to see it.
Turning to logic, Marcellus considers human gestation: roughly 280 days, often unnoticed for weeks in unplanned cases. He concludes conception likely occurred near the night of the boy’s accident. Marcellus wonders if giving Tova the young man’s date of birth and last name would finally be enough to reveal the connection.
Reflecting on holes, Marcellus notes that while he appreciates the freedom a hole can bring, he hates the hole in Tova’s heart. With his end nearing and Tova’s time at the aquarium waning, he resolves to intervene and do everything he can to help her understand and heal.
