An Unexpected Treasure
Contains spoilersOverview
Tova coaxes Cameron into a friendlier encounter with Marcellus, who playfully reveals a silver earring before hiding it, hinting at his knack for “treasure.” A minor clash over work habits prompts Cameron to reveal his absent-mother past. Tova’s apology and praise strengthen their bond and trust.
Summary
Tova replaces a broken stool with a new one and predicts Marcellus is in a better mood. Despite Cameron’s skepticism, Tova demonstrates gentle contact, then urges Cameron to try. After a cold, tentative start, Cameron relaxes as Marcellus explores his arm and even plays a shoulder-tap prank, drawing laughter from both.
When Cameron steps down, he notices a glint in the tank’s sand. Together he and Tova spot a teardrop-shaped silver earring before Marcellus sweeps it into his den. Tova laughs and recounts how Marcellus once unearthed her lost house key, dubbing him a “treasure hunter,” while Cameron remains unsure.
Back at their chores, Cameron silently resists checking his phone about Avery. A small disagreement over properly securing a trash liner escalates until Cameron blurts that he “never had a mother,” explaining she struggled with addiction and left when he was nine. Tova apologizes for her remark and the tension softens.
Cameron admits to a long, busy day; Tova’s praise that he’s working very hard warms him. He shares that Aunt Jeanne raised him, and Tova invites more about her. They end with shared laughter over trash-liner habits, their rapport deepened while the mysterious earring remains hidden with Marcellus.
