Contains spoilersOverview
Fury informs Bryce that Micah has transferred Hunt to Sandriel ahead of the Summit, ensuring Hunt’s renewed enslavement. The friends clash over Fury’s absence and Juniper, exposing old wounds. Despite insisting she’s over Hunt, Bryce chooses to act, vowing to prevent Sandriel from taking him by doing something “smart.”
Summary
Bryce returns home to find Fury waiting on the couch where Hunt used to sit. After banter, Fury demands a promise that Bryce won’t do anything stupid, then reveals that Micah has given Hunt to Sandriel. Sandriel will bring Hunt to the Summit and then back to Pangera, ending his chances of freedom.
Bryce tries to appear indifferent, insisting Hunt lied to her. Fury presses, noting Hunt’s scent and challenging Bryce’s detachment. The news escalates into a confrontation about Fury’s two-year absence after Danika’s death, and Bryce accuses her of abandoning their friendship when Bryce needed her most.
Fury admits she couldn’t cope, alludes to deep, ongoing ties with Juniper, and acknowledges mishandling the past. The argument cools; Fury prepares to leave for the Summit, urging Bryce not to act recklessly. They part with a fragile truce and a promise to reconnect after the Summit.
Alone, Bryce envisions Hunt on the couch and recognizes she can’t let him be taken by Sandriel. Though she told Fury she was over it, Bryce redirects her anger into resolve. She vows not to lose another friend and decides to act—not “stupid,” but “smart”—to stop Hunt’s transfer.
