Summary
In Oracle’s Park, Aidas, Prince of the Chasm, sits in the guise of a white cat as Jesiba Roga approaches. After banter about his grooming, Jesiba asks why he kept silent about Bryce. Aidas admits he trusted no one, not even her. Around them, crowds gather after rifts to Hel opened; beasts of the Pit slipped through and are now punished by one of Aidas’s brothers, to whose efforts Aidas will soon return.
Jesiba presses about Bryce’s power. Aidas says he believed Theia’s light had been extinguished under Prince Pelias’s blade, yet Bryce Quinlan bears it. He can distinguish Bryce’s starlight from her brother’s and says Theia’s light remains a song in his blood, confirming an ancient lineage at work.
When Jesiba asks about Hunt Athalar, Aidas replies that Hunt’s father would have been proud, a sentiment Jesiba—who knew the male—lets stand. The exchange underscores Aidas’s selective candor and personal stake.
As Aidas prepares to leave, he asks after the library; Jesiba says it has already been moved. Satisfied, Aidas turns to go. Jesiba warns him not to betray them again. Aidas answers that he does not intend to, especially with things about to get interesting, before fading back to Hel.
