Jet finds her old camera in a box and, intending to sell it, instead starts taking pictures again. Encouraged by Nana and Kendall Darnell, she upgrades to a new camera, builds a website with a coworker’s help, and receives a commission for a Texas nature calendar. She and Kendi, already planning to celebrate his college graduation, combine the celebration with a photo trip to Palo Duro Canyon.

Kendi and his on‑again, off‑again girlfriend Leah are “on” when the trip is planned, but they break up the night before departure. Jet notes her own lack of relationships since Sully. The first three days in the canyon are idyllic: hikes at golden hours, abundant wildlife, and strong photographic results, including a likely calendar cover from the Lighthouse Trail at dawn. Jet reflects on recent losses, including putting down her pet Stethoscope, but focuses on the landscape, friendship, and craft.

They camp, cook, and tend minor aches. Jet sleeps deeply and feels restored. On the last night, rain moves in and they switch to Kendi’s tent. Jet wakes from a panic‑inducing nightmare about Lillian’s death; Kendi comforts her and admits he has similar nightmares about that night. He recalls Lillian humming Kenny G shortly before she died, which makes Jet consider that Lillian may have died content. Jet dreams of riding horses with Lillian, soothed by the idea that her mother is “right here.”

By dawn, rain persists and Kendi seems withdrawn. When pressed, he reveals that Leah broke up with him because of Jet, saying no one could compare to Jet. He then confesses he is in love with Jet and has been for years, adding that he can live with unrequited love but not without her. Jet, fearful of losing the friendship and unable to return his feelings, apologizes. Kendi exits the tent into the rain.

They take a final, strenuous hike in drizzle without meaningful conversation and then break camp. The drive home is filled with forced small talk as they pass through rural Texas. When Kendi drops Jet at Nana’s house, she asks if things will be different; Kendi says he doesn’t know. Jet leaves the truck with a terse goodbye, and Kendi speeds away, underscoring the rift.
