Jet goes to Ryan’s apartment, noting his sober demeanor, tidy space, and Coldplay playing—music she had introduced to him. She refuses to come inside at first and announces they need to talk about “the baby,” which makes Ryan glance at her stomach in confusion. She clarifies by demanding to know who Davis is.

When Jet explains she received an email from Davis Condie claiming to have been born to Lillian Wright in 1974, Ryan at first appears clueless, then recognizes what she means and says, “Oh… that baby.” He confirms that Davis would be Jet’s half brother, born before Ryan and Lillian met, and that he and Lillian discussed the child only once. He goes to retrieve something.

Ryan returns with a weathered envelope addressed to “Georgette Elise” in Lillian’s handwriting. Jet is furious that Ryan had kept an item addressed to her since they cleaned out Lillian’s apartment, accusing him of hiding a part of Lillian’s past. Overwhelmed, she storms out despite Ryan’s attempt to explain.

On the landing, Ryan asks what Davis wants and urges Jet to be careful. Jet lashes out, accusing Ryan of choosing alcohol over his family when he claims he left for their sake. He tries to warn her again, but she rejects his concern and leaves. Ryan does not follow.

Reeling, Jet drives away with the envelope, concluding that Lillian left a child and lied about Jet being an only child. She wrestles with the shattering of her image of her mother and feels the destabilizing urge to drink. At a stoplight, she stuffs the unopened envelope into her glove box and drives on.
