In 2012, shortly after Jet’s Palo Duro honeymoon, Jet texts Ryan to keep up their Photography Sundays. Ryan agrees, quietly acknowledging his history of missing plans and putting away a bottle of bourbon before packing his camera. Months later, their routine is intact, but Jet’s old Corolla is battered and lacks air conditioning. Ryan offers his car or money, but Jet refuses, implying a sentimental attachment tied to Nana.

While trying to help with a stuck window, Ryan opens the glove box and finds an unopened pregnancy test. Jet tersely reveals she is pregnant, confirmed by three prior tests, and admits her ambivalence. Ryan also finds the long-postponed envelope from Lillian meant for Jet; tensions flare as Jet reminds him he delayed giving it to her until Davis appeared. After some back and forth, Jet decides to open the envelope alone, and Ryan walks away to shoot photos.

A brief interlude recounts the envelope’s history: years earlier Lillian assembled a white envelope containing a photograph and negatives—images of Lillian pregnant—intended for Jet. After Lillian’s death, a drunk and grieving Ryan found the envelope and an unfinished letter from Lillian to Jet explaining that Jet was Lillian’s third pregnancy, preceded by a miscarriage and, before that and before Ryan, a son she placed for adoption. Ryan sealed the envelope and set it aside.

Eleven years later, in the present empty parking lot, Jet opens the envelope. She finds the dated April 1974 photo and negatives showing Lillian pregnant. Jet returns to Ryan with puffy eyes and sits in the grass while Ryan continues photographing a nearby horse and hay bales. A harmless rat snake startles them, and the near-miss triggers Jet’s anxiety about potential danger to a child.

Walking back to the car, Jet reflects that she once judged Lillian as selfish for placing her son for adoption but now sees there was “no easy way out,” only choices between losses. She realizes her anger came not from Lillian’s secrecy but from Lillian dying before she could tell Jet herself. Ryan considers responding but stays quiet, listening to Jet’s grief and changing understanding.

At the car, Jet confesses she has not told Kendi about the pregnancy and admits she does not know what to do. Ryan, worried, asks careful questions without pressing. They buckle in and drive home with one window down, both the past (Lillian’s unfinished letter and photo) and the future (Jet’s pregnancy) newly exposed and unresolved.
