At Henry’s apartment, Robbie and Bea arrive for a Halloween-season movie night. Robbie picks The Shining, Bea teases him, and they compare costume plans. Bea notices Henry’s unused Nikon camera and encourages him to take photos again, but Henry privately worries that any work he makes would be tainted by the wish that makes people see what they want.

As the movie plays in the dark, Henry flinches through the scares while Robbie leans into them. During a lull, Robbie’s hand stays on Henry’s thigh, and the touch hits Henry with a sudden, aching sense of familiarity and longing.

Henry escapes to the kitchen under the excuse of making more popcorn, and Robbie follows. Before Henry can protest, Robbie kisses him, pressing him back against the counter, and for a moment it feels more grounding than the shallow attention Henry has been drowning in.

Henry breaks away and pulls Robbie into the hall to talk privately, stopping Robbie from trying again. Robbie insists it isn’t a mistake and says he loves Henry; Henry, shaken, points out that Robbie once broke up with him. Robbie claims Henry is different now and finally knows who he is, but Henry realizes he doesn’t even recognize himself, and he notices a troubling fogginess in Robbie’s eyes.

Bea calls out for the popcorn, and Henry rushes back to the microwave. The bag is already ruined, leaving the night punctuated by a small, bitter consequence: the popcorn is irretrievably burned.
