The company prepares for a night assault with scarce resources: Rafa blesses pumped river water for holy use, Gabriel mixes small ignis charges, and Saoirse hauls spirits to soak walls and a single corridor as fuel. Gabriel outlines a fallback into the cathedral, telling most of the group that only the west passage is primed to burn, while secretly planning otherwise with Dior. Gabriel struggles with burgeoning thirst and loss of faith, which Saoirse bluntly notes renders his silver aegis powerless.

As night falls, a mass of wretched advances. Gabriel, Saoirse, and Bellamy fight atop the walls with holy water, fire, and blade, while Rafa and Chloe hold the bailey and Dior hides to trigger the trap. The horde outflanks them by scaling the cliffside, and Danton appears on the western battlements, directing the wretched. Bellamy, mentally invaded by Danton, falters. Gabriel engages Danton on the highwalk but is gravely wounded and overmatched by the ancien prince.

Saoirse intervenes ferociously, cracking Danton’s marble-hard flesh but cannot finish him. In a brutal counter, Danton tears out Saoirse’s throat, killing her, then hurls her axe Kindness into Phoebe mid-leap, mortally wounding the lioness before tossing her to her death. Jezebel, the dray, panics and flees through the broken gate, momentarily scattering enemies. Chloe and Rafa drag the mauled Bellamy toward the cathedral as Gabriel fights a rear guard and ignites more spirits to delay pursuit.

When Danton orders the wretched away from the west corridor to avoid the expected trap, they instead surge into the east “dawndoors” corridor—exactly where Dior stands with a lit cigarelle. Dior ignites the vodka vapors; the explosion incinerates the packed wretched and blasts into the cathedral. Gabriel reveals to Jean-François that he fed false intel to everyone but Dior, anticipating Danton’s mind-reading and turning it against him.

Inside the cathedral, Rafa, Chloe, and Dior try to save Bellamy, but he is already dead despite Dior’s blood. Danton, largely unscathed, confronts them. Rafa stands radiant with his burning wheel and unwavering defiance—until Danton goads him to prove his faith by discarding the wheel. Rafa hesitates; doubt dims the wheel’s light. Danton crushes the weakened relic and sinks his fangs into Rafa’s throat, killing him as Chloe and Dior cry out and Gabriel, barely standing, smashes a stained-glass window for escape.

Gabriel, Chloe, and Dior flee out the broken window and up to the wall above the cliffs with Danton in pursuit. Cornered, Gabriel prepares to jump with Chloe and Dior, but Danton catches Dior’s collar and begins hauling all three back. In a split-second choice, Chloe meets Gabriel’s eyes, says “Dior is all that matters,” and lets go, plunging into the abyss. Gabriel tears Dior free by ripping his magik coat apart, dragging Danton off balance. Gabriel and Dior fall into the dark toward the Volta below as Danton is left holding the torn garment.
