With sunset approaching, Frère Greyhand orders Gabriel de León and Aaron de Coste to accompany him to the de Blanchet family tomb in Skyefall’s necropolis to determine if Claude de Blanchet has Become. Greyhand arms himself with a spiked flail and silver chain, coats the team in ghostbreath to mask their living scent, and doses them with sanctus, heightening their paleblood senses. He rigs both necropolis stairwells with hellspark and stations Aaron at the dusk entrance and Gabriel at the dawn entrance, instructing them to hold positions and ignite the hellspark if he sounds his horn.

After Greyhand descends alone, time passes in tense silence. Gabriel hears a distant cry and, despite Aaron’s command to stand fast, lights the hellspark behind him and enters the crypts to aid Greyhand. He navigates ancient corridors filled with graves and statues until he finds Greyhand fighting two highblood vampires in a large crypt under the statue of Mahné: a man in a frockcoat (later decapitated) and a woman in an elegant dress. The glow of Greyhand’s aegis burns bright, and Gabriel’s sevenstar responds in kind.

Greyhand binds the male with his silver flail, and a wretched fledgling girl attacks from behind. Greyhand’s sanctified markings burn the girl, and he drives her back with holy water before beheading her after skewering her through the chest. During the melee, Gabriel blinds the male with his palm’s light and strikes him with a silverbomb, while the female pleads and then strikes Gabriel, hurling him into a sarcophagus and escaping down the corridor.

Greyhand wounds but fails to stop the fleeing woman with silvershot; Gabriel’s shot also misses. With the exit’s hellspark already burned out—because Gabriel prematurely lit it—there is no barrier to her escape. Greyhand then finishes the male vampire with repeated blows and holy water, finally severing his head, confirming the foes’ strength as Blood of Voss by their resilience to silver and sanctified strikes.

Outside, Greyhand finds Aaron de Coste beaten and bloodied, implying the escaping female overpowered him at the entrance Gabriel abandoned. Enraged, Greyhand throttles Gabriel against the cliff for disobeying orders, blaming the lapse for losing their quarry and risking civilians. He confirms Claude de Blanchet’s tomb is empty and notes blasting powder residue, suggesting the boy shifts between nests.

Greyhand decides to search Skyefall’s mines with Aaron before nightfall and demotes Gabriel to guard duty over Claudette de Blanchet at the alderman’s estate. He warns Gabriel that any future disobedience will result in his death to protect innocents, then orders him to burn the vampire corpses.
