Carl meets the transformed Chris Andrews, now a level 35 igneous warrior, and hears how Chris escaped the Water Quadrant by seizing a submarine and being launched through a missile tube into the desert. Even while Chris explains his arrival, Carl notices serious warning signs: Chris has not contacted his party, says using parts of the interface hurts him, speaks coldly about family, and fixates on attacking the castle and finding Donut. At the same time, viewer counts surge, Katia receives an emergency benefactor box from Princess Formidable, and Carl realizes something dangerous is unfolding.

As Carl keeps Chris talking, Chris gives inconsistent details about his family and game guide, and Juice Box arrives in time to sense that more than one presence is involved. Chris starts talking about dead family members, hopelessness, and choosing not to survive, which makes Carl finally recognize that this is not truly Chris speaking. Carl identifies the impostor as Maggie My, who has somehow taken control of Chris. Before Maggie can act, Katia uses a petrification bolt from her emergency box to freeze Chris's body, and Carl grabs the spiked orb Maggie had been holding before it can activate.

With Chris immobilized, Mordecai explains the truth: Maggie has become an Infiltrator, a parasitic brain worm that takes over living hosts completely, leaving the victim conscious but powerless. Chris has been trapped inside his own body while Maggie hunted Carl, including killing Frank. The group learns that separating Maggie from Chris without killing Chris is essentially impossible on this floor, though Mordecai might be able to brew an antiparasitic on the next floor if he gets the right materials. Through Imani and Elle, Chris begs Carl and Donut to kill him rather than leave him trapped with Maggie.

Carl identifies Maggie's orb as a celestial grenade that would have summoned a god for sixty seconds. Chris's relayed messages reveal that Maggie worships Algos, god of pain, not Grull, and that both Maggie and Chris have Skull Empire sponsors, including Prince Maestro and Crown Prince Stalwart. Carl and Mordecai conclude that someone tied to the Skull Empire arranged the grenade and a private saferoom contact so Maggie could unleash Algos on Carl and devastate the town. Princess Formidable's expensive intervention, including Katia's bolts, appears to be an attempt to block her brother's reckless scheme.

As the petrification bolts run low and Carl prepares to kill Chris himself to prevent Maggie from escaping into a new host, Donut intervenes. Using a hole spell, Donut drops Chris and Maggie into a sealed chamber beneath the streets instead of letting Carl deliver the fatal blow. He orders Mordecai to search the market immediately for materials that could save Chris, decides to activate more audience-feedback tools for better intelligence, and turns back to Juice Box because they still need answers and must attack the last castle once darkness falls.
