Summary
In the gallery’s basement workroom, Evie assembles place cards for an upcoming luncheon when Ryan drops by, having already heard about the tense lunch with his friends. He teases her about seating rivals apart, urges her to call him when things go wrong, and pulls her into his lap, offering comfort. Evie reciprocates but privately laments the secrets between them and how her feelings complicate her mission.
Ryan again invites Evie to work for him; Evie deflects, citing distraction. His phone vibrates, and he steps into the hall to take a call. Ryan authorizes a one-day job with an arrival set for Thursday at 11 a.m., grows angry about a missing item, and ends with, “Find it.” He returns, masks the tension as a work problem, and flirts. Evie suggests that working for him would expose more, but she refuses, and they plan to meet at home soon. Ryan reminds her she can tell him anything, even about his friends’ behavior.
After finishing her tasks, Evie calls Rachel to reset their dynamic. Evie admits discomfort discussing her past; Rachel apologizes for pushing and agrees to a truce, though her tone is clipped. Evie concludes Rachel remains suspicious and capable of digging, noting Rachel’s position at the firm that handles Ryan’s affairs. Evie resolves to keep Rachel under close watch.
