At the NHL Awards in Las Vegas in June 2014, Shane Hollander waits backstage in a tuxedo to present with Ilya Rozanov, but no one can find Ilya. Shane reflects that they have not spoken off the ice since Sochi, and that Ilya’s Olympic humiliation seemed to make him shut Shane out—until Ilya channeled that anger into leading the Bears to a Stanley Cup win.

Ilya finally appears at the last moment, cool and unapologetic. Onstage, they deliver scripted banter and even stage a “selfie” moment with Ilya’s arm around Shane, which makes Shane acutely aware of how affected he still is. As soon as they leave the stage, Shane ducks into a backstage bathroom; Ilya follows, locks the door, and immediately turns the encounter sexual and controlling, refusing to do anything there and instead ordering Shane to come to his hotel room later.

Ilya ups the stakes by offering Shane a “deal” tied to the night’s awards, and Shane later learns Ilya has won. Shane leaves the party early, restless with anticipation, and goes to Ilya’s suite after receiving the room number. Once inside, Ilya accepts a curt congratulations and orders Shane to undress and get on the bed, then makes Shane masturbate while Ilya watches and drinks vodka, refusing to let Shane hide behind alcohol or change the terms.

As the performance escalates, Ilya tells Shane to use his fingers and pushes him to beg.
