Cassie and Drummond watch Cassie’s grandfather, Joseph Andrews, eating lunch at Matt’s in 2012 Oregon. Drummond urges Cassie to approach, and Cassie, nervous and overwhelmed, sits across from Joseph without speaking at first.

Joseph recognizes Cassie but is confused by her older appearance. Cassie proves her identity by showing the childhood scar near her collarbone. She explains that she is from the future and came back specifically to see him; Joseph accepts that she is his granddaughter and that something extraordinary must explain her presence.

Cassie thanks Joseph for raising her and shares pieces of her life—traveling across Europe and working in a bookstore—while Joseph studies her like she is a glimpse of what is coming. Cassie tries to steer the conversation toward warning Joseph about what will happen to him, but Joseph firmly refuses, insisting he should not know the future.

When Cassie breaks down, Joseph tells Cassie that grief and hardship are part of life and that Cassie must choose happiness instead of hiding in books and isolation. Joseph comforts Cassie, and Cassie admits she does not know what to do next but hopes she can return and see him again; Joseph encourages her to come back anytime.

They hug, and Joseph asks Cassie to be happy “for me” before leaving in the rain, visibly shaken. After Joseph drives away, Cassie runs outside, lets the rain soak her, collapses in the parking lot, and screams her grief into the gray day while Drummond follows and demands to know what she is doing.
