Darrow joins Mustang for an early meal as a flustered Brown cook overserves them. They banter about insomnia, spaces, and Obsidian customs before Mustang steers the talk toward deeper matters: systemic manipulation of Colors and the resilience of human love across caste lines.

When Cassius arises, Mustang takes control. She recounts choosing Darrow over Adrius at the Institute, then explains that her relationship with Cassius was a calculated shield to protect House Augustus amid Pliny’s machinations. She admits the cost—feeling hollow and trapped—yet insists it was for family. She confesses fear that Darrow will die and warns that Adrius is a true monster who must never be trusted.

Darrow comforts Mustang, silently resolving that she is central to his purpose even as he withholds his own secret identity. He leaves without pursuing romance, knowing his larger mission will wound her.

Returning to his suite, Darrow is halted by Ragnar, who senses a Gold inside. They enter to find the Jackal in a bathrobe, unbothered. Darrow dismisses Ragnar and negotiates, both acknowledging their situation has changed but their alliance need not.

Darrow and the Jackal agree Pliny must be removed, but they will maintain public distance to obscure their coordination and keep ties with the Telemanuses. The Jackal syncs holoComs and will summon his ships while Darrow holds the Pax. They align on strategy: fan the wider war instead of containing it, keep Mustang safe, and explore a new target—the shipyards of Ganymede.
