Darrow meets Kavax and Daxo au Telemanus, bracing for resentment over Pax’s death. Instead, Kavax warmly embraces him and Daxo acknowledges shared enemies, including the Bellona and the returned Adrius “the Jackal.” They describe Pax with affection and make clear they do not hold Darrow responsible.

Kavax’s fox, Sophocles, theatrically “discovers” jelly beans in Darrow’s pocket—planted by Daxo—prompting Kavax to declare it an omen of approval. When Darrow asks for their help immediately, Kavax and Daxo pledge House Telemanus to his cause and await instructions.

Afterwards, Darrow updates the Jackal over holo and refines his plan with Adrius’s input. He orders Orion to set a course for Europa, a two-week journey, signaling the next phase of his campaign.

Roque joins Darrow on the bridge and refuses to discuss Quinn. He accuses Darrow of engineering the war instead of trusting Roque to buy his contract, and demands to know why he was drugged. Darrow admits fault and apologizes, even offering to abase himself, but Roque remains hurt, jokes without smiling, and walks away, leaving their friendship fractured.
