The chapter is written from the perspective of Everen, the last male dragon, who is supposed to fulfill a prophecy to save his kin from ruin.
Everen vividly reminisces about his flying experiences and the community of dragons before he embarked on a quest to fulfill the prophecy.
Despite his sister Cassia's warnings, Everen steals a prophecy key and seeks out the specifics of his destiny.
His journey leads him into a Veiled storm, a rip in the spatial boundary between dimensions and potential danger. Here, Everen undergoes a painful transformation into a weakened, non-red-scaled form and is cast into a new environment.
Everen is thrust into an alien, cold environment drastically different from his home, Vere Celene. He possesses a smaller form which the dragons took when they performed delicate work. This form is considered an abomination by many dragons, and some dragons never transform at all.
Trapped in this alien space, Everen finds a human being - the first he's ever seen - and recognizes that this human is Arcady, whom this story is directed to.
