As Álvaro finishes breaking Santángel’s fingers, Luzia collapses to her knees and blood pours from her mouth. A pomegranate tree erupts into sudden, violent growth, its branches smashing the ceiling and fruit bursting across the room, while Víctor recoils in shock.

Santángel drags himself to Luzia and realizes her tongue has split; she is panicked and making animal sounds, losing blood fast. With his own influence overwhelmed by what just happened, Santángel focuses on keeping Luzia calm and insists she must sing to heal herself, repeating her name and urging her to fear nothing.

Luzia squeezes Santángel’s hand and, unable to form words, produces a ragged melody from her chest that steadies into a song Santángel recognizes from long ago. The singing mends Luzia’s tongue; Santángel checks her mouth, confirms it is whole, and orders ice or cold milk and water to clean her.

Only then does Santángel notice what he tripped over: Álvaro’s body is no longer intact, with only parts remaining in the room as if the rest dropped through the floor. Don Marius, holding a sobbing Valentina in the hallway, explains that pieces of Álvaro fell through the ceiling into his study while he was working.

Santángel, ignoring his own pain, takes control of the aftermath. Carrying Luzia, he orders Valentina to lead him to Luzia’s room and to fetch Juana, dismiss the cook early with a cover story, and tells Víctor to send the coach for Gonzalo and Celso to help clean and restore order—then pointedly demands that Víctor also send for someone to set Santángel’s broken fingers so they heal properly.
