The strange chill and sense of being watched last until Lenora finishes with a single name: Ricky. The moment she types it, the room feels warm again and the oppressive sensation disappears, leaving Kit to focus on what Lenora has revealed.

Although Lenora still has not explained every detail of the murders, Kit draws an important conclusion from this latest section. Kit now believes Lenora hid the murder weapon and withheld information from the police because she was protecting someone. The final revelation of the chapter is Kit’s belief that, eight months before the murders, Lenora had fallen in love with Ricardo Mayhew.
