Chapter 51: Lyria: Jade Witch
Contains spoilersOverview
Lyria and Volga survive the crash, confirm Fig is dead, and take her mysterious orb. They discover a trapped, pregnant Victra and form a tense, necessary alliance when Harmony’s Red Hand arrives. Lyria rejects a risky shot at revenge, and the trio flee to find communications or a way south.
Summary
In the wreck’s aftermath, Lyria reels from Fig’s death and the parasite entering her. Volga verifies Fig is dead, then removes Fig’s eyes to claim Quicksilver’s bounty and seizes Fig’s sealed black orb, which proves impervious to gunfire and seems to whisper to Lyria.
Drawn by a strange hum, Lyria and Volga find a pregnant Victra pinned under a fallen tree. Lyria, furious over past captivity, threatens Victra with a pulseFist, but Volga intervenes. Victra demands help; Lyria refuses and strikes out alone while Volga chooses to repay a debt by aiding Victra.
Spotting incoming “pelican” shuttles marked like those that butchered her family, Lyria recognizes the Red Hand and rushes back to warn them. The three retreat uphill, with Lyria tracking via fading thermal traces while wrestling with the unsettling presence inside her.
From cover, they watch Reds comb the crash site under Harmony, whom Victra identifies as the Red Hand’s leader and Lyria’s old tormentor. Lyria’s senses spike and the orb seems to whisper again. Volga offers to snipe Harmony, but Victra warns of the tactical risk; Lyria rejects revenge to avoid exposing them to the shuttles.
Victra explains the Ascomanni hacked Pandora’s systems, destroyed escape pods, and forced her to cut the beacon, meaning her rescue won’t arrive in time. With Harmony’s trackers closing, the trio commits to fleeing now to find a comms array or a boat south across the sound.
