Fifty. Rune
Overview
Rune confronts Gideon after overhearing him belittle her and their intimacy, interpreting it as proof he used her to hunt the Crimson Moth. Gideon tries to stop her and claim he misspoke, but Rune refuses to hear him. She cuts off the courtship and rides away, severing their fragile trust.
Summary
Rune reels from overhearing Gideon dismiss her as “a pretty face” and their night together as something meaningless, convincing her that his courtship was only a tactic to unmask the Crimson Moth.
As she reaches her horse, Lady, Gideon catches up and grabs Rune’s wrist, begging for a chance to explain and insisting he “didn’t mean any of that.” Rune yanks free and, furious and humiliated, refuses to listen while onlookers stare.
Rune condemns Gideon as selfish and cruel, says he repulses her, and ends their relationship outright. She mounts Lady and rides away, determined to be finished with Gideon Sharpe for good.
