Evie spends the entire day circulating through the office, discreetly eavesdropping on conversations in hopes of identifying the traitor. She comes up empty-handed, finding only mundane gossip about taverns and office romances. She longs to confide in her friend Tatianna but realizes she cannot rule anyone out as a suspect, leaving her feeling isolated and personally betrayed. Despite this, she reflects on how much she values the honest, unpretentious community at Massacre Manor—a place where flawed people don't pretend to be virtuous.

Seeking a break, Evie visits the manor's kitchen and chats with Edwin, the friendly ogre cook who shares her love of books. He offers her pastries and points her toward her favorite stained-glass window—a mosaic depicting a sun shining on an old book—where she often finds solace. The kitchen is a familiar retreat where she vents frustrations and occasionally spars with the abrasive Becky.

Returning to her desk, Evie notices a faint, rhythmic clicking sound that no one else seems to hear. Anxiety builds as she tries to pinpoint the source, walking around the room and listening carefully. The sound grows louder near her desk, and Kingsley the frog appears at her feet, clearly agitated. Kingsley hops through the slightly ajar door into The Villain's office, and Evie follows despite her instincts warning her to stay out.

Inside the empty office, Kingsley leaps onto the desk and holds up a sign reading "Danger." Evie knows she shouldn't be in the office without permission, but the clicking is now unmistakable and coming from inside the desk. She reaches in and pulls out a small, cool object. As she turns it over, she realizes with chilling clarity that it is a bomb.
