Evie arrives at the office disheveled and finds Becky already at her desk, wincing from an injury sustained during the previous day's events. Becky assures Evie she's fine, crediting Tatianna for healing her. Tatianna then enters, dressed elaborately in pink, drawing teasing comments from Becky about her color choice.

The reason for Tatianna's effort becomes apparent when Clare exits The Villain's office looking forlorn. Evie and Becky quickly deduce that Tatianna dressed up because of Clare, much to the healer's embarrassment. When Clare glances their way, Tatianna instinctively asks if her bow is straight, then immediately tells Evie and Becky to say nothing about her slip. Clare approaches looking ethereal in a light-blue dress and, despite feigning disinterest in Tatianna's appearance, blushes visibly.

Clare requests to speak privately with Evie and Tatianna, suggesting they go to the healer's quarters. Though Evie senses she may be intruding on something personal between the two women, Tatianna silently insists Evie come along for support. Once inside the quarters, Clare enters first with a sense of ownership that irritates Tatianna.

Tatianna moves to a small rectangular box in the corner of the room. When Evie asks what's inside, Tatianna gives her a grim smile and warns that what's about to happen will hurt. The chapter ends on a cliffhanger as Evie experiences sudden pain.
