Summary
The chaplain is distressed by the accusations made by Corporal Whitcomb. He becomes even more upset when he finds out that the C.I.D. man thinks he has been signing Washington Irving's name to official papers and stealing plum tomatoes. The chaplain feels like he is unable to help or improve the lives of others.
