Rereading it, he is struck by the ending he had forgotten—God's restoration of Job's blessings. Looking up, he sees the white deer standing at the edge of his property near the family gravesite. Overwhelmed, Jasper interprets the deer's appearance as a divine sign that God never abandoned him, and that Tanner's arrival is his own restoration, just as Job received a new family after losing everything. As the deer vanishes into the Uwharrie, Jasper weeps with peace and whispers a prayer of thanks.
