- On the 10th day, Lorry finds Manette reading a book and no longer incoherent
- Lorry and Miss Pross ask Manette what caused his relapse
- Manette suggests that a strong memory was triggered by some stimulus
- Manette assures them that the relapse is unlikely to happen again
- Lorry and Miss Pross destroy Manette's shoemaking tools and bench while he is away on the honeymoon
