Summary
Unable to sleep after a nightmare, Feyre wanders the dark manor, sketching a crude map despite her illiteracy to learn exits and hiding places. Tamlin arrives in beast form, limping and bleeding from the Bogge hunt, then shifts back. Distant and exhausted, he notices her map and illiteracy; Feyre insists on tending his wound.
In a small infirmary, Feyre cleans and wraps Tamlin’s injured hand, noting the cuts are shallow yet slow to heal. He asks how she learned such skills, and she explains necessity from caring for her family. Tamlin admits she isn’t what he expected of a human.
In the morning, as Feyre seeks to study the manor’s art, she overhears Lucien and Tamlin arguing. Lucien chastises Tamlin for inaction, warning that borders between courts have vanished, creatures like the puca and Bogge are entering, and time is short. Tamlin refuses a course he “can’t stomach,” citing his father’s legacy; when discovered, Lucien pushes Tamlin to accompany Feyre instead of himself.
Feyre declines hunting, and during a walk Tamlin thanks her, explaining the Bogge’s bite slows Fae healing. He notes her stolen dinner knife and tendency to eavesdrop. When Feyre presses about Lucien’s warning, Tamlin evades, claiming immortals have time but acknowledging more creatures may come under the blight. He opens the study for her, and dread twists in her stomach at what awaits inside.
