Linus files Report #3, candidly profiling each child and crediting Arthur’s care as transformative. That night, Lucy’s nightmare convulses the house until Arthur talks him down while Linus witnesses and comforts. Arthur agrees to a first trip into the village—a record store visit—and he and Linus share a quietly intimate moment.
Summary
Linus drafts Case Report #3 covering his third week. He revisits concerns about the children’s isolation, argues RULES AND REGULATIONS are outdated guidelines, and notes village prejudice. He profiles each child: Phee’s growing control under Zoe’s tutelage; Theodore’s intelligence and communication; Talia’s gruff protectiveness; Chauncey’s misclassification and resilient dreams; and Sal’s recovery from past abuse. He concludes that Arthur’s stewardship makes the house a necessary place of healing.
Days later, Linus wakes to his floating bed and a rumbling that vibrates the guest house. Zoe appears, explaining Lucy is having a nightmare. Downstairs, the children insist Lucy isn’t dangerous but fear DICOMY judgment. Trusting them, Linus climbs to Lucy’s room as the hallway warps and a cacophony of music blares.
Linus finds Arthur steadying Lucy amid circling records and wild energy. Arthur speaks softly, urging Lucy to "come home." Lucy convulses, then collapses into Arthur’s arms and sobs about being lost among metaphorical spiders. The house settles; broken records litter the floor.
Linus reassures Lucy that what’s broken can be mended and suggests repairs. Arthur volunteers a solution: visiting the village record store and making a day of it for everyone. After Lucy races off to reassure the others, Arthur warns that Lucy has never harmed anyone and pleads against any action that would remove him. Linus and Arthur hold hands, discuss Lucy’s self-blame, and frame the “spiders” as threads of darkness within his light.
Arthur admits he worries but agrees the outing is due. He tells Linus he likes him as he is. Linus retreats, unable to sleep, replaying the feel of Arthur’s hand and the deepening trust that now binds them all.
