Escorted to Ellder, Odessa discovered layers of deception: Zavier was a double named Dray, and the Guardian—Ransom Wolfe—was the true crown prince who had spoken the vows and sealed their marriage with his blood. As Odessa trained with a gifted sword, bonded with Evangeline, and quietly mapped Turah with Samuel Hay’s help, she learned Turah’s capital and the Voster’s location were guarded secrets and that Ramsey’s book burnings and militarization masked deeper aims.
