Two days after Josh's departure, Alex has fully moved into Josh's house next door to Ava. Ava decides to make the best of the situation and bakes her signature red velvet cookies as a welcome-to-the-neighborhood gift. She packages them in a basket and, despite her nervousness, walks over to Alex's house when she hears him arrive home from work. She rings the doorbell twice before Alex answers, still dressed in his designer work attire.

Ava awkwardly presents the cookies and proposes a truce, since they're stuck as neighbors for the next year. Alex points out they aren't at war, and Ava grows frustrated, telling him to just take the cookies and do whatever he wants with them—even feed them to a pet snake she jokingly names Nagini. Alex takes the basket, thanks her, and surprises Ava further by inviting her inside.

Inside, Ava observes that Alex's home is already immaculate and minimalist—a stark contrast to Josh's previously cozy, cluttered space. She notices the complete absence of personal photos or effects. When she asks about this, Alex reveals he has hyperthymesia (Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory), meaning he remembers virtually everything about his life—every conversation, detail, and emotion—whether he wants to or not. Ava is struck by the irony: she remembers almost nothing before age nine, when the most horrible events of her life occurred, while Alex remembers everything.

Ava asks what it's like, and Alex describes it as watching a movie of your life—sometimes drama, sometimes horror. When Ava nervously jokes about comedy or romance, the tension between them intensifies. Alex notices her physical reaction, then dismisses her, telling her to go home and stay out of trouble.
