Kya is led into the courtroom and notices a familiar face from her past, Jodie.
The prosecution calls Mrs. Sam Andrews, mother of Chase Andrews, to the witness stand.
Mrs. Andrews confirms that her son continuously wore a rawhide necklace hung with a shell, given to him by Kya.
It is revealed that Kya had made a journal for Chase, filled with personal paintings and stories of their times together. The journal was presented as evidence.
Patti Love, significant to the story as Chase's mother, remembers finding the journal hidden in Chase's room and expresses disgust and disgrace for her son's relationship with Kya.
The journal contains a painting of Kya giving the shell necklace to Chase at the fire tower, which leads to a series of questions confirming Chase wore the necklace continuously, even on the night of his death, but it was missing when his body was identified.
The prosecutor highlights that Kya was the last person who gave Chase the necklace which disappeared after his death.
Kya's lawyer, Tom, objects to one of the prosecutor's questions suggesting speculation about the reason someone other than Kya would take the necklace. The objection is sustained by the judge.
The prosecution ends its questioning, and Tom chooses not to cross-examine Mrs. Andrews.
